About Dan and Sandy Winkelman

Our Mission Story

Dan & Sandy Winkelman are AGWM global workers to the nation of Burma also known as Myanmar. Dan is an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God and was lead pastor at Highland Church in Stevens Point Wisconsin for over 10 years until he was called to the mission field in 2015. In 2016, Dan and Sandy moved to Myanmar to begin leading their church planting initiative: The Burma Project.

Dan has traveled extensively around the world doing leadership training and short term missions. Dan & Sandy have lived in Yangon, Myanmar bringing the gospel to the Buddhist world through the Burma Project. As of today they have helped plant over 70 churches.

In 2018 Dan was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, forcing his and Sandy’s return to the United States for treatment. Returning to the United States proved to be God’s provision as COVID-19, and a devastating military takeover plunged the country into chaos. As a result, all global workers were forced to leave the country.

After Dan was declared cancer free in 2019, the Lord renewed the vision of a million souls coming to Christ. This led him to become an advocate for Change the Map—an organization that champions prayer for the Buddhist world.

Currently they live in Stevens Point, Wisconsin where they serve as advocates for the Change the Map prayer movement while they continue to raise awareness and funds for the Burma Project.

Our Cancer Story

In August of 2018 Dan was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer.

He and Sandy were devastated, having gone from their peak of successful mission work, to lonely and fearful of the long and painful road ahead.

In the midst of Dan’s fear, God said, “Remember how many times I’ve rescued you in the past? I’ll rescue you again.”

Dan has been cancer-free since March of 2019.
